Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is happy to update the community on improvements at Dr. Jose Rizal Park, 1007 12th Ave. S. on north Beacon Hill. SPR has conducted extensive engagement with the community for improvements and is working to ensure that the park is clean, safe and welcoming.
The following is an update on park improvements:
- The restroom renovation construction is underway. We anticipate opening the two single stall restroom facility by fall of 2026. The upper portion of the park and the parking lot will remain closed to the public for the duration of the restroom renovation.
- SPR is moving forward with removal of the picnic shelter due to its deteriorated condition and demonstrated community support. This will occur in mid-January. We anticipate this construction will be completed by the end of February 2026.
- SPR’s Park Activation team, Rec N’ the Streets is currently planning Wednesday morning City Portrait and Open Air painting classes at the site, once the shelter is removed. More details will be shared closer to the spring 2026.
- A design is underway to replace the play area, enhance seating to enjoy the view, and make the park more accessible. SPR will be in community in early 2026 to get final feedback from the community on the play area design.
SPR is actively pursuing additional funding opportunities to implement comprehensive site upgrades to the upper portions of the park.
