Elliott Bay Connections Project Begins Shoreline Improvements in Myrtle Edwards and Centennial Parks

The Elliott Bay Connections (EBC) project continues to make progress restoring and revitalizing Myrtle Edwards and Centennial Parks. As early as Tuesday, September 2, the project will shift the temporary multi-use trail east, where pedestrians and bicyclists will share the newly improved bike path. This shift will allow the project team to begin work on shoreline upgrades, including improved access to beach coves, refreshed landscapes and a new children’s exploration area. Shoreline areas and park space will be temporarily closed while improvements are underway.

Elliott Bay Connections will restore the beach coves in Myrtle Edwards Park, enhancing habitat and making it easier for people to touch the water.

Since starting work in Myrtle Edwards and Centennial Parks in March 2025, the project has completed upgrades to the bike trail, lighting and utilities. Work is being done in phases with closures scheduled to limit impacts on park users and sensitive fish and wildlife. Construction will be complete in Spring 2026, with all trails and park space reopened ahead of the FIFA World Cup™.

Starting as early as September 2, the current temporary multi-use trail will shift east onto the newly improved bike path through Spring 2026. The project team will continue to improve user experience by promoting safe, responsible trail use for all users.

Access to the Myrtle Edwards and Centennial Parks trail system via the W Thomas Street Pedestrian and Bicycle Overpass will reopen as part of the multi-use trail shift. The newly upgraded connection features ADA improvements, creating a more seamless experience for people walking, biking or rolling through the parks.

Construction is progressing on the new public amenities building with the foundation of the future space laid. Once complete, the building will feature restrooms, a food concession and seating. Park landscape enhancements are also underway, featuring native plantings, new lawns, meadows and trees that contribute to a continuous and connected experience along the Elliott Bay waterfront.

Progress on Greenway Trail underway

In addition to park upgrades, the Elliott Bay Connections project includes construction of a new bicycle and pedestrian greenway trail on the east side of Alaskan Way between Pier 62 and the Olympic Sculpture Park. Work on the future greenway trail began in February 2025. Since February, we have removed the obsolete trolley tracks along Alaskan Way, paved the new trail and installed irrigation in preparation for landscape areas featuring new trees, shrubs and ground cover plantings.

Construction on the greenway trail began in February 2025 and is anticipated to be complete in June 2026. Work is being divided into zones and scheduled to limit impacts on residents, businesses and cruise operations.
