Week Without Violence: 10/16-21

A Week Without Violence Celebration (10/16 through 10/21) is a time for us at Seattle Parks and Recreation to further our mission to provide welcoming and safe opportunities to play, learn, contemplate, and build community and promote responsible stewardship of the land.

Here are a few ways we can accomplish this goal during and beyond the Week Without Violence.

  • Recognizing youth participants who spread positivity in and around their community.
  • Promoting programs that highlight the importance of personal and community safety.
  • Establishing and/or further nurturing youth leadership opportunities.
  • Celebrating non-violent accomplishments throughout the year.
  • Acknowledging the young people we lost to violence, with this as a reminder of why we uplift this special week each year.

Isiah Anderson Jr., in his new role as the Performing Arts and Teen City Wide Events Recreation Program Coordinator, will be co-leading future efforts in which we all make a commitment to co-create an ongoing means to prevent youth violence in the communities we serve.

The Teen Life Centers are each hosting an event on October 20, 2023.  They would love for any of the youth you know and work with to attend one or more of the locations included within the flyer below.  Please help spread the word!

Please reach out to the sites directly for a more detailed list of activities that will be provided and contact Isiah at isiah.anderson@seattle.gov if you’re interested in supporting as a volunteer at one of these events.
