The deadline for submitting an application for the Seattle Preschool Program has been extended from July 31 to August 10 at 5:00 p.m.

Each year, Seattle Parks and Recreation celebrates teens with Youth Appreciation Week by providing special programming during Seattle Public Schools’ spring break week. Programming includes regularly scheduled activities, special events, field trips, and activities designed to celebrate this special week for teens.
The week kicks off with a Youth Appreciation Week Block Party at Southwest Teen Life Center, 2801 SW Thistle St., from 6 – 10 p.m., on Saturday, April 13. Events include a job fair from 6 – 8 p.m., followed by skating, swimming, video games, live DJ’s, food, tee-shirts and more. Youth aged 12 – 19 are invited to come. Parents are welcome too. Seattle Parks and Recreation and the Queen Anne Advisory Council present Family Fun Nights at Queen Anne Community Center, 1901 First Ave W, on the first Friday of the month – starting this month.
As the cold winter nights approach and kids are bursting with energy, family fun nights allow kids to be kids and parents to be kids too, if they want. Join kids as they bounce off the walls with as many as four bounce houses, in addition to a variety of other toys and balls and more.
Family Fun Nights will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. on October 7, November 4 and December 2. The cost is $3 dollars per child to participate.

Seattle Parks and Recreation’s High Point Community Center is hosting the Fabulous Family Fun Series the third Saturday of each month through the end of the year. The series features entertainers and music that is sure to amuse kids of all ages.
October 15: Louie Foxx, Magician
Louie Foxx’s one-man show is filled with tons of magic, comedy, cowboy tricks, juggling and more audience interaction than you can shake a stick at. Louie was recently on America’s Got Talent, and is a Guinness World Record Holder.
November 19: Jamtown
Experience the joy of hands-on music and art for children, families and music lovers of all ages. Become a part of the percussion instrument ensemble as we explore the music of Africa using hand-crafted indigenous musical instruments.
December 17: The Noise Guy
What bellows like a reindeer, jingles like a sleigh bell and flushes like a toilet? It’s the Noise Guy! Hear realistic noises you won’t believe! Join Charlie “the Noise Guy” Williams on a holiday sound adventure that will be sure to surprise and delight.

Seattle Parks and Recreation will hold the final life jacket sale of the season at Evans Pool on Saturday, September 18 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The pool is located at 7201 E Green Lake Dr. N.
The cost for life jackets sizes infant to youth large is $20; for teens to adult size XXL, the cost is $30. All sales are final. No refunds, no returns.

Join Seattle Parks and Recreation and the Japanese Garden Advisory Council as we celebrate Children’s Day at the Garden, 1075 Lake Washington Blvd. (south end of the Washington Park Arboretum) on Monday, May 31 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
At this family-friendly event that celebrates the healthy growth and happiness of children, the Fujima Dance Ensemble will perform a selection of traditional Japanese dances at 1 p.m.; there will be a public tour of the Garden at 1:30 p.m.; and Kaze Daiko, a local youth taiko group, will perform taiko at 2 p.m.
Other activities will be available throughout the event, including kite making, origami, koi feeding, yukata dress-up and kamishibai (story cards) read in Japanese and English.
Please note that Seattle Japanese Garden Annual Passes are not applicable during the Children’s Day event. Event admission is $10 for adults, with up to three children free (age 12 and younger) per paying adult. Admission for visitors ages 13-17, senior adults 65 and older, college students with ID, and people with disabilities, is $3.
Children’s Day in Japan is a day set aside to honor children’s health and happiness; it has been a national holiday since 1948, and now is celebrated in many countries around the world.
