Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR), in partnership with the Seattle Police Department (SPD) and other City departments, is implementing the 2026 Summer of Safety initiative to support safe, welcoming parks during the busiest time of year.
This summer, visitors can expect modified park hours, increased staff and security presence, clearer signage, enhanced maintenance, and targeted physical improvements at high-use parks across the city.
Summer of Safety is a coordinated, data-informed approach to managing increased park use during peak summer months. Building on last year’s efforts, SPR is focusing resources where they are most needed to support park access, reduce impacts on surrounding neighborhoods, and respond quickly to issues as they arise.
What You’ll See This Summer
Summer Park Hours
Select parks operate under summer hours during peak season. These hours support safe park closures and help reduce late-night impacts.
Parks with summer hours include:
- Alki Beach (4am-10:30pm)
- Golden Gardens Park (4am-10:30pm)
- Stan Sayres Memorial Park (6am-10pm)
- Atlantic City Boat Ramp (6am-10pm)
- Hamilton Viewpoint (6am-10pm)
- Don Armeni Boat Ramp (4am-10:30pm)
- Eddie Vine Boat Ramp (4am-10:30pm)
- Magnuson Boat Ramp (6am-10pm)
- Sunnyside Boat Ramp (4am-10:30pm)
- Fourteenth Avenue Boat Ramp (4am-10:30pm)
Hours are posted on park webpages and on-site signage.
Expanded Security at Key Parks
SPR is continuing a pilot program to provide overnight private security at Golden Gardens Park and Magnuson Park.
Security will be on site Thursday through Sunday, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., with schedules adjusted as needed throughout the summer. This expanded presence is intended to support safer conditions during peak use periods.
Increased Staffing and Enforcement Support
SPR is partnering with SPD to support park closing times at Alki Beach, Golden Gardens, and Magnuson Boat Ramp on weekend evenings starting Memorial Day weekend.
Park Rangers will also have an increased presence in the evenings across the park system to support Parks Code compliance.
Enhanced Maintenance and Park Conditions
SPR is increasing maintenance efforts during the summer months to keep parks clean, safe, and welcoming. This includes more frequent restroom cleaning, increased trash and recycling pickup, and additional staff presence in high-use parks.
Maintaining clean, well-serviced parks supports positive use and helps prevent issues before they arise.
Clear Signage and Physical Improvements
Visitors will see increased signage across parks to clearly communicate hours and park rules, including reader boards at Alki Beach, Golden Gardens, and Magnuson Park.
SPR is also partnering with other City departments on a coordinated communications campaign, including video and social media, to remind the public of park hours, rules, and how to help keep parks safe and welcoming.
We continue to make improvements that support visibility and positive use of park spaces, including maintaining clear sight lines, improving lighting, and keeping parks clean and well cared for. These efforts help create environments that feel safe and welcoming for all.
A Shared Effort
Creating safe, welcoming parks is a shared responsibility. Summer of Safety combines increased City presence, clear expectations, and ongoing evaluation to support positive use of our public spaces.
SPR will continue to monitor conditions throughout the summer and make adjustments as needed. Weekly calls are occurring between SPR and SPD so we can course correct and make adjustments as needed.
Our goal is simple: a fun, safe summer where everyone can enjoy Seattle’s parks.
We invite you to get outside, connect with your community, and help care for and enjoy these shared spaces.
