Maple Wood Play Area Opens

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is happy to announce the renovated play area, plaza, restroom and parking lot at Maple Wood Playfield, 4801 Corson Ave. S. are all open!  This renovation project provides a cohesive accessible design and improves the site for the surrounding community and city-wide recreation.

The playfield and portions of the landscaping at the park will remain off-limits and closed to all as the natural turf establishes. The natural turf on the playfield will require two growing seasons to fully establish. SPR needs the cooperation of the community to allow the turf to fully establish and grow. Please stay off the playfield and out of the natural turf area closed off by fencing. With the community participation we anticipate opening the playfield in summer 2026.

This project is a significant investment in the South Beacon Hill neighborhood. Funding was provided by the Seattle Park District, along with state and county grant support. Grant funding came from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) through the National Park Service Land and Water Conservation Fund, from RCO’s Youth Athletic Facilities program, and from King County’s Youth & Amateur Sports program. These investments support Seattle Parks and Recreation’s ongoing commitment to equitable access to high-quality recreational spaces.

To enhance the project, SPR coordinated with a local artist and community to create a mural for the shelter area, restroom and basketball court. Thank you to everyone who provided input on the mural project, a big thank you to the Maple Elementary School who participated in the early design phase for the play area.
