Seattle Parks and Recreation proudly announces that Waterfront Park has received the 2025 Outstanding New Park Project Award from World Urban Parks, recognizing the park’s impact as an innovative and dynamic community space.
Stretching from Pioneer Square and the Stadium District to Pier 62, Waterfront Park transforms Seattle’s central waterfront with lush gardens, expansive open areas, and sweeping views of Elliott Bay. The park features a scenic promenade, rebuilt piers, an elevated connection to Pike Place Market, nine public art installations, two play areas, and a new public restroom. Designed with sustainability and community in mind, Waterfront Park incorporates plantings that filter rainwater and help restore the shoreline environment.
“Seattle shines brighter than ever with this recognition for Waterfront Park,” said AP Diaz, Seattle Parks and Recreation Superintendent. “This award is a testament to the power of parks to connect us to nature, create spaces where community thrives, and celebrate the vibrant spirit of our city. Waterfront Park embodies our commitment to building places where everyone feels welcome, inspired, and connected to the beauty of Seattle.”
Waterfront Park’s success is made possible by a partnership between the City of Seattle and Friends of Waterfront Park, ensuring free, year-round public programming, including live music, performances, festivals, fitness activities, and more. Seattle Center leads maintenance, operations, and safety, keeping the park welcoming and accessible for all residents and visitors.
World Urban Parks is a global organization championing excellence in urban parks and open spaces, annually recognizing innovative and outstanding projects that foster vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable communities worldwide.
