Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is excited to announce the grand reopening of the Madrona Playground play area, 917 34th Ave! The newly renovated play space has been thoughtfully redesigned to provide a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for children and families to enjoy.
Please join us for the ribbon cutting celebration on Tuesday, August 12 at 5:30 p.m. just prior to Music in the Playfield with music by Correo Aereo, presented by Madrona Neighborhood Association.
“We’re so excited to welcome families back to Madrona Playground and participate in the music in the park,” said AP Diaz, Seattle Parks and Recreation Superintendent. “This renovation design was truly shaped through community’s feedback that helped us create a space that’s more welcoming and better reflects the way people use and love this park. We can’t wait to see the playground full of energy again.”
The play area features a new nature-themed play structure designed for children ages 2-5, complete with swings, slides, and spring toys. For kids aged 5-12, there are multiple swing bays and a combined structure with a net climber, slides and whirl feature. The equipment’s nature theme was chosen based on community feedback.
The project was made possible through $550,000 in funding from the Seattle Park District, and reflects SPR’s commitment to providing safe, inclusive, and engaging outdoor spaces for the community. The renovation included the full replacement of all existing play equipment to meet current safety and accessibility standards. In addition, the existing sandbox was removed to create more open space near the parks cherry tree grove.
