Genesee Playfield Renovation Begins

Seattle Parks and Recreation(SPR) has contracted with Coast to Coast Turf for the Genesee Playfield 1 & 2 Replacement project. Coast to Coast will mobilize at the playfields, 4316 S. Genesee St., the week of September 16, 2024. Coast to Coast will begin work on playfield 2 (upper) and open that field in spring 2025.  Playfield 1 (lower) will be completed in fall 2025. SPR and the contractor will work to minimize impact to the neighborhood during construction.  Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation.

SPR continues to lead the way in developing and installing synthetic turf fields by investing in a state-of-the-art synthetic turf system that is safe, playable, durable, and retains less heat in the summer. Our standard is to provide a sustainable cork and sand infill over a cushioned pad system. The Genesse Fields project include the removal of the old ‘worn out’ synthetic turf and addressed structural repairs to curbing, sub-subsurface and drainage.

As part of our asset management plan the synthetic turf playfields are renovated every 10 to 12 years for safety reasons. The carpet fibers of the synthetic turf fields age over time and lose their ability to hold the infill that keeps the surface soft. All synthetic turf fields have improved access and lighting which allows these fields to be used year-round.

This project is made possible with funding from the Seattle Park District Cycle 2 which provides funding for this playfield renovation along with funding to ensure Seattle’s nearly 500 parks, playfields, and community centers remain welcoming places for recreation, learning, and healthy communities.
