Seattle Parks and Recreation has issued the Notice to Proceed to Kassel & Associates, Inc. for the Magnolia Community Center Stabilization Project. Kassel & Associates, Inc will mobilize on-site June 10, 2024.
The Magnolia Community Center Stabilization Project was identified in the 2016 Community Center Strategic plan for a major maintenance project, focused on extending the life of the facility and increasing programming potential. The renovation of the facility will include a roof replacement and structural and seismic enhancements to the gym, roof access, and fall restraints. Additionally, window replacements will be made to the multipurpose rooms and hallways. The front entry will receive a floor replacement, as well as a kitchen and restroom remodel, electrical upgrades, exit signage, and ventilation improvements. Lastly, the center’s accessibility functions will be improved by adding a wheelchair lift between the lobby and the gym.
All improvements are designed to ensure the community center remains a safe, functional, and welcoming space for all users.
“We’re excited to begin construction on this center and to deliver a revitalized community space to Magnolia,” said AP Diaz, Seattle Parks and Recreation’s Superintendent. “This facility serves as a hub for the Magnolia community, and a shinning Seattle Parks and Recreation facility where all are welcome for generations to come.”
During the renovation, SPR has coordinated with community partners and nearby centers, including Ballard Community Center, Queen Anne Community Center, and Discovery Park Visitor Center, to relocate some services temporarily. The project is expected to be completed by summer 2025. For additional information on programming please visit https://www.seattle.gov/parks/all-community-centers/magnolia-community-center.
