Seattle Parks and Recreation’s Hiawatha Community Center Stabilization Project Begins Construction

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is happy to announce the beginning of construction for Hiawatha Community Center Stabilization project. SPR issued the Notice to Proceed to Optimus Construction who will mobilize on site March 11, 2024.  The contractor will set up construction fencing to allow for deliveries and construction activities on the east and south side of the Hiawatha Community Center building. SPR will work with the contractor to minimize impact to the park.

“The Hiawatha Community Center renovation will greatly improve the functionality of the building for this thriving community,” said AP Diaz, Seattle Parks and Recreation Superintendent. “The renovated building will be more accessible, safer and provide upgrades to the mechanical systems that demonstrate our environmental values.”

This project addresses a number of major maintenance, accessibility, and program space needs at Hiawatha Community Center. It will include a seismic retrofit of the gym and brick veneer, roof replacement, and renovation of the restrooms, kitchen, childcare area and lobby spaces in addition to relocation of the teen room.   To stay up to date on the project please visit https://www.seattle.gov/parks/about-us/projects/community-center-stabilization-overview/hiawatha-community-center-stabilization.
