Seattle Parks and Recreation provides design update for Smith Cove Park at upcoming meeting

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) invites the community to a design update meeting for the Smith Cove Park project on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Catherine Blaine School, 2550 34th Ave. W.  SPR is beginning the next phase of the design process for this project and a component of moving the design forward has been to refine the project budget. To that end, we are proposing to phase the project, starting on the west parcel first, to maximize investment opportunities. This meeting is an opportunity to learn about the project phasing, receive design updates and ask any questions about the project.

Smith Cove Park is located just west of Pier 91 at the foot of Magnolia Hill on Elliott Bay at 1451 23rd Ave. This project will make improvements to the west parcel which is the playfield used for youth sports at Smith Cove Park (west of 23rd Ave. W) and develop the 4.9-acre easterly waterfront property (east of 23rd Ave. W) in the second phase. The expanded park will provide opportunities for active and passive recreation for all ages and abilities, increase environmental-sensitivity, and make the park inviting and usable for more people. Thank you to everyone who participated in the previous meetings. We encourage you to attend this meeting and see how your input has helped shape the design.

In early 2016, SPR hired GGN as the design consultant. GGN and SPR used the outreach and concept completed by the Friends of Smith Cove Park (FoSCP) in 2015 as the starting point for the design of the park.
