Seattle Park District Greenways Initiatives provides improved routes for Rainier Beach community

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) and Seattle Department of Transportation invite the community to celebrate the connection improvements in Rainier Beach on Sat. Oct. 21 from 1 to 3 p.m. at 4525 S. Cloverdale St.  Join us to celebrate the improvement connections from Dunlap Elementary to the Rainier Beach Playfield Play area and community center. We are partnering with the Austin Foundation on the event which will have fun and activities for all ages.  Come walk on the new path and connect with your neighbors.

Starting in 2016, Seattle Parks and Recreation launched the Greenways Initiative in 2017. The initiative funds projects and programs to connect, enhance and activate links from Neighborhood Greenways to Parks by improving access and amenities for pedestrians and bicycles.

The Greenways Initiative just completed its second project, the Rainier Beach Playfield Path upgrades project. This project made improvements to the pathway along Dunlap School and installed a new pathway between the baseball and soccer fields. The new paths replaced the deteriorating pathway, improved access to and from the park and improved accessibility. The project is a joint effort with the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) Safe Routes to School program.
