Laurelhurst Park Redwood Tree Planting

This fall Seattle Parks and Recreation will be planting ten redwood trees in the northwest corner of Laurelhurst Playfield. The trees will be small 3-foot saplings when planted, and will grow to six feet in the next few years. While we can’t predict their rate of growth, we anticipate that within 40 years the redwoods would reach 50 feet in height. The trees will be planted more than 85 feet from the nearest houses.

Parks and Recreation staff will work hard to ensure the survival of these trees, with proper planting, mulching, and fencing. We hope that the quiet, slightly-sloped area SPR staff have selected will support the growth of these beautiful trees, and deter any disruption. As with all trees in the Seattle Parks and Recreation system these will be cared for and monitored by our team of arborists and ground maintenance staff.
