Partnership Highlight: Woodland Park Lawn Bowling Club

Woodland Park Lawn Bowling Club (WPLBC) is committed to sharing the fun of Bocce, Croquet, and Lawn Bowling with all members of the community, and as part of their commitment, WPLBC hosts open hours for non-members and offers free lessons to low-income youth. Located on a beautiful, green hillside with views of Green Lake, the WPLBC facility includes two large putting-surface quality greens, four regulation bocce courts, and a clubhouse.

Public Benefits:

“Open” Public Play Hours

During their regular season (May-October), WPLBC host “open hours” for the public to play games completely free-of-charge. During open hours, community members of all ages are welcome to drop by WPLBC, play their own game, or join a game with WLPBC members. Participants in open hours do not pay a fee nor do they need to make a reservation. Game equipment is also provided for free during open hours.

Open Hours Schedule (May-October)

Bocce                           Every Friday 6:00pm – 9:30pm

1st and 3rd Saturdays 10:00am – 4:00pm

Croquet                       1st and 3rd Tuesdays 6:00pm – dusk

Lawn Bowling              Every Wednesday 6:00pm – dusk

Free and Reduced Rate Rentals

Outside of open hours, WPLBC offers additional free and reduced access to qualifying groups. Senior centers, Boys and Girls Clubs, 501-C-3 nonprofits, school groups, and community groups often qualify for free or reduced rental rates, and they are encouraged to contact the bowling club to arrange a time to play and inquire about discounts. The club can accommodate groups of up to 32 people, and during a facility rental, WPLBC volunteers are available to teach game instructions. To learn more about renting greens and scheduling play hours at free and reduced rates, groups can either email WPLBC through their website form or call Club Rental Chairman Mark Charonis at (206) 524-1416. Community members can also apply for rentals and learn more through the rental form available on the WPLBC website.

Membership Scholarships to Low-Income Community Members

WPLBC offers need-based membership scholarships to low-income community members of all ages. Membership to the bowling club lasts for one year, and the standard cost of membership for one person is $80 or $110 for a family (two adults plus minors who live at home). Last year, WPLBC awarded three $80 scholarships worth a cumulative $240. To apply for a scholarship, fill out a membership application and contact WPLBC via phone at (206) 782-1515 or email them through their website form.
