If you’ve walked through Cal Anderson Park recently, you may have noticed some fencing work underway and wondered what was happening.
We’ve heard the rumors, so let’s clear things up:
The basketball courts aren’t going anywhere. In fact, the fence work is not impacting any park amenity or recreational use.
The work currently taking place is simply routine fence repair and maintenance. Our contractor is repairing and replacing sections of fencing around the park, with work expected to wrap up in mid-June.
At the same time, we also replaced the basketball hoops. The timing was purely coincidental, but seeing new hoops and fence construction happening together understandably led some people to believe a larger project was underway.
The good news? These projects are limited to fence repairs and basketball hoop replacement. No park amenities are being removed, relocated, or otherwise affected by this work.
Thanks to everyone who reached out with questions. We love seeing how much people care about their parks, and we wanted to make sure everyone had the facts.
