Join us for a Ribbon Cutting Celebration on April 27!
Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is excited to announce the reopening of the Salmon Bay Park play area, located at 2001 NW Canoe Place, Seattle, WA 98117. The fencing at the site came down on Friday, April 4, officially opening the renovated play area to the public. SPR invites community members to visit the play area over the weekend and join us for a ribbon-cutting celebration on Sunday, April 27, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the park.
“Salmon Bay Park’s new play area is a shining example of how fun design and community input can come together to create a vibrant, renovated play space that offers an engaging, imaginative experience for kids,” said AP Diaz, Seattle Parks and Recreation Superintendent. “This project brings nature, adventure, and accessibility together in a way that truly reflects the spirit of Seattle’s parks and nature landscape.”
The redesigned play area is based on the “Woodland Explorer” concept, which was selected through the community engagement process. The new layout includes play structures designed for children ages 2 to 5 and ages 5 to 12, offering a wide range of features that encourage imagination, movement, and inclusive play. The new play structures include multiple slides, bridges, platforms, nature-themed play panels, log hops, tot, belt and adaptive swings, and climbable whirl, and the well-loved zip line will remain in place.
The project also improves ADA accessibility to the play area and adds accessible picnic tables and benches. In addition, SPR is partnering with the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) to install new bike parking that will make it easier for families to ride to the park.
We are excited for the community to have a renovated space to play and grow in. Be sure join us and the Salmon Bay Park Stewards on April 27 to celebrate and experience the new Woodland Explorer play area!
