Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) staff are scheduled to present their findings from the 2023 Off Leash Area (OLA) Expansion Study to the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners (BPRC) during their June 8th meeting at 6:30PM (meeting info). The Study, designed to develop a list of suitable park sites for future OLAs, will greatly help expand our existing system and provide additional opportunities for people to exercise and socialize their dogs.
Join us at BPRC’s virtual meeting to hear more about the study process and which sites were determined to be suitable for future OLAs. After this presentation, SPR will release an online survey that will allow us to capture your feedback on specific sites. Additional in-person engagement opportunities for this summer will also be announced soon. The current cycle of the Metropolitan Park District (MPD) provides funding for the construction of two new OLAs as well as the design of a third OLA; from there the department will need to request additional funding to construct and maintain any additional OLAs. Your input, in addition to our study findings and factors like geographic equity, will help shape the future expansion of our OLA system and determine which sites will be prioritized for the available funding. The sites that are not immediately prioritized will function as a blueprint for the department in future years as more funding becomes available for the construction of additional OLAs.
