It’s that time of year again! The much-anticipated Salmon “Seeson” is officially underway in Seattle. Every fall, our local waterways come alive with the incredible journey of salmon returning to their home streams to spawn. You have a front-row seat to this amazing natural event at Carkeek Park, where the Chum salmon are making their way back to Piper’s Creek.
Join the Seattle Parks Environmental Education Team, the Carkeek Watershed Community Action Project, and Seattle Public Utilities for a month of education and celebration. Discover the resilience of these iconic fish, learn about their lifecycle, and see the positive impact of local conservation efforts firsthand. This is a perfect autumn outing for families, nature lovers, and anyone curious about the wild side of our city.
Meet the Salmon Stewards Every Weekend
Have you ever wondered how salmon find their way home? Or what challenges they face along the way? Now is your chance to ask the experts.
Every weekend day throughout November, dedicated Salmon Stewards will be stationed at Carkeek Park. These knowledgeable volunteers will be on hand to answer your questions and share fascinating insights into the world of salmon. You’ll learn about their incredible lifecycles, the specific habitat they need to thrive, and the importance of urban watersheds like Piper’s Creek.
While this fall has been a bit drier than usual, recent rains are encouraging more and more fish to complete their journey. Last year saw a record number of returning salmon, and hopes are high for another strong season. As you explore the creek, be sure to also admire the impressive beaver dams and the vibrant wetland areas.
