Celebrate Earth Day and Campus Renovations at Bitter Lake Community Center

Join us April 22 for free fun Ribbon Cutting & Earth Day Celebration

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) invites the Bitter Lake community to an afternoon celebration and ribbon cutting at Bitter Lake Community Center and Playfield!  Please join us to cut the ribbon on the renovated play area, restroom and lighting projects and celebrate Earth Day with nature walks, face painting, arts and crafts, music, refreshments and more.  The free community event is Tuesday, April 22 from 3 to 5 p.m. with the official ribbon cutting at 4:30 p.m. at 13035 Linden Ave N.

“We are excited to bring these welcoming renovations at Bitter Lake Playfield to the public, creating a vibrant and inclusive space where the community can gather, play, and connect,” said AP Diaz, Seattle Parks and Recreation Superintendent. “With recent investments in the play area, restroom, and lighting, alongside the offerings of the Bitter Lake Community Center, this campus is now more accessible and inviting for everyone.”

Seattle Parks and Recreation’s $2.6 million investment delivers a renovated play area, a universally accessible restroom facility, and new tennis court lighting. The renovated play area has a rubberized safety surface, offering a variety of engaging new play structures for sliding, spinning, zip-lining, and climbing. Designed to be a vibrant and inclusive, the area provides opportunities for children of all abilities in both the 2–5 and 5–12 age groups to explore and enjoy.

The restroom building has been updated to include three universally accessible, gender-neutral restrooms, enhancing overall accessibility. Upgrades also include new light poles and electrical service cabinets at both the tennis court and restroom, improving energy efficiency, safety and reducing glare. Additionally, the park now includes new benches, picnic tables, trash receptacles, site furnishings, and a ping-pong table, enriching the overall visitor experience. The play area opened on May 24, 2024, and the restrooms were completed in March 2025.

Thank you to the community for your input during the design process and to Hoshide Wanzer Architects and the Berger Partnership for their wonderful design work that incorporated the community input.
