Introducing Seattle’s Newly Renamed Lake City Beach Park!

The park formerly known as Cedar Beach Park has officially been renamed Lake City Beach Park—a change that reflects the community’s connection to the area and dedication to preserving public spaces.

This new name not only highlights the park’s proximity to Lake City but also serves as a tribute to the passionate efforts of local residents who worked tirelessly to ensure the preservation of this cherished slice of waterfront.

Lake City Beach Park is located at the street end at NE 130th Street. This 3,653 sq. ft. shoreline is accessible by foot or bike and is most easily reached by the Burke-Gilman Trail. This new name will replace the Cedar Beach Park name, as including Lake City in the name was important to community members who worked so hard to ensure this Dead End became a public beach.

The site had been a public small street-end beach property used by the community as a public park and an access point to Lake Washington since the early 1900’s.  In 2013, it became clear that the land was not, in fact, publicly owned. Neighboring community members rallied the City to help restore public access to this waterfront property. In 2015, the City Council authorized the acquisition. The City initiated a condemnation process in 2016, and a settlement was reached. Seattle Parks and Recreation finalized the purchase of this property in May 2019 and formally named it Lake City Beach Park after seeking public naming suggestions.

Whether you’re biking the Burke-Gilman Trail, seeking a quiet spot to bask in the sun, or enjoying waterfront access with your family, this park provides a welcoming retreat for everyone.
