Seattle Parks and Recreation and the Seattle Mariners Ribbon Cutting: Rainier Synthetic Turf Playfield

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) and our partners at the Seattle Mariners invite the community to come out to the ballpark on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 10 a.m. to cheer on the Rainier District Little League at their parade and see the celebratory ribbon cutting on the new synthetic turf infields. This event celebrates one of MLB and the Mariners All-Star Legacy Initiatives, which renovates both the baseball and softball fields at Rainier Playfield, 3700 S. Alaska St.

This collaboration provides an enhanced facility to serve high school varsity baseball and softball teams, as well as local youth leagues while increasing access to those most impacted by play equity barriers, specifically youth from diverse and low-income backgrounds. The fields will also be a space for skills clinics and middle school programming.

“Seattle Parks and Recreation is thrilled to partner with the Mariners and Major League Baseball on this project,” said AP Diaz, Seattle Parks and Recreation Superintendent. “Seattle truly shined during the All-Star Game this past year and here we are today standing on this renovated field that will benefit the community for years to come and serve as seminal legacy of the Game.”
