Seattle Parks and Recreation hosts Community Celebration for Spruce Street Mini Park

Seattle Parks and Recreation(SPR) invites the community to a ribbon cutting celebration for the Spruce St. Mini Park, 160 21st Avenue, 98122, in Seattle’s Central District on Saturday, July 29, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will feature music, food and an opportunity to explore the renovated park. This park renovation was a collaboration with the community and the Office of Arts & Culture.

“During the outreach for this play area renovation project we learned from the community about the need for pathway and drainage improvements.  Our in-house design team took these issues to heart and responded to their request with a great design,” said AP Diaz, SPR Superintendent. “I want to thank the community for their participation and the Office of Arts and Culture for their wonderful partnership on the iconic park mural. This renovated park in the Central District offers a beautiful park for all in this urban neighborhood.”

The renovation includes a beautiful community-inspired mural, new play area layout with bright playful-color play equipment, ADA improvements, benches, seating steps, and new circular pathways.

Artists, Ari Glass and Craig Cundiff worked with the community and completed the Spruce Street Mural Art Project with SPR 1% for Art funds.

“The Spruce Street Mini Park stands as a testament to the power of art in enriching our communities. Set in the heart of the central district, this urban oasis has at its center a mural promoting the value of family and cultural legacy and promises to inspire connection and creativity for residents and visitors alike for years to come,” said Gülgün Kayim, Interim Director of the Office of Arts & Culture.
