Installation Description: ChromaCyclium is comprised of color acrylic inserts that are mounted in a metal hemisphere dome. Daylight shines through the dome apertures to project colored light in the dome’s shadow on the ground below. As the sun moves throughout the day the appearance will change.

Event Description: On Saturday, August 6, candle-lit lanterns will float across Green Lake at From Hiroshima to Hope, Seattle’s annual peace and cultural event honoring the victims of the 1945 atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and all victims of war and violence. Pre-program activities begin at 6:00 p.m., and a family program with music, poetry, taiko drumming and speakers begins at 7:00 p.m. The candle-lit lantern ceremony begins at 8:15 p.m., with lanterns floating on the lake at dusk, offering a moving and beautiful conclusion to this free, community arts and cultural event.

Our all-day festival employs musicians of color to perform live, filmmakers of color to have their work screened, and black-owned businesses to platform and sell their work on their terms. Last year, The Stranger “BAZZOOKAFEST is more than a festival, it’s a vibe” and South Seattle Emerald called it a “blueprint for more events and platforms that center BIPOC artists on their terms.” This year, it will be even bigger and Park & Play with Reconnect better.

Event Description: This event will feature Eritrean and American food, fun activities for kids, entertainment including music and dance by the Eritrean Dance Group, performances by NW Tap Connection and a DJ; face painting, a balloon artist and henna artists; storytelling and sing-along sessions led by our elders; haircuts for boys and hair braiding for girls; and much more. We will also be giving away free backpacks and school supplies and will use the event to offer vital resource information and basic health-related and education services with the help of partner organizations and agencies.
