Due to extreme indoor heat and humidity, Seattle Parks and Recreation closed Rainier Beach Community Center Pool Sunday afternoon, with the closure extending through today, June 28. High pool deck temperatures caused by the humidity and the fresh air system drawing in hot air created unsafe conditions inside. Typically, pool air temperatures are in the mid 80’s. The temperature inside reached 95 degrees yesterday afternoon, which is unsafe and unhealthy for participants. With Monday’s heat expected to break records again, pool conditions will remain unsafe and unhealthy throughout today.
Rainier Beach Pool staff will be redeployed to beaches to further support lifeguarding and rotations for cooling breaks.
