Seattle Parks and Recreation invites the community to celebrate the Discovery Park play area renovation

Seattle Parks and Recreation(SPR) invites the community to celebrate the renovation of the Discovery Park play area on Thursday, December 28, 2017 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Please join us at the play area located near the Discovery Park Environmental Learning Center, 3801 Discovery Park Blvd., just past the tennis courts. The event will include music, refreshments, nature learning experiences and more.

The renovation project updated the play area equipment, improved safety, increased play area accessibility in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and provided new picnic tables and seating. Play equipment includes climbing structures, a zip line, swings, and structures that resemble tree houses. The project ensures ADA access and maintenance access to the playground area from park pathways. The play area equipment is appropriate for children of all abilities, including toddlers and older children. The new equipment is composed of materials which can withstand the elements

Harrison Design Landscape Architecture designed the play area renovation with input from the community. SPR awarded the construction contract to WS Contractors in summer 2017. The play area opened to the public in early December 2017.
