Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is seeking shows and performers for the 2017 Summer Showcase at Dr. Blanche Lavizzo Park to enliven the park and engage surrounding communities.

SPR is looking for individual performers or performance groups that are interested in activating the park with live performances. Dance, music, spoken word, theater, and other formats are all welcome. Performance dates are available on Saturdays and Sundays in June, July and August of 2017.

THE PARK

Dr. Blanche Lavizzo Park is located next to 22nd Avenue S. between E. Yesler Way and S. Jackson Street.

Dr. Blanche Sellers Lavizzo was the first African American woman pediatrician in the state of Washington. She arrived in Seattle in July 1956 and began her pediatric practice on E. Madison Street and later on E. Jefferson Street. She served as first medical director of the Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic, which still exists today at the north end of the park.

The park is surrounded by residential homes, townhouses, and apartments, and features an amphitheater with built-in seating for about 100 people. It also features a picnic shelter and built-in barbecue grill.

REQUIREMENTS

Performers will need to submit a Park Use Permit application to secure a park reservation. Performers will also need to obtain Event Liability Insurance.

SPR will waive fees associated with use of the park. This does not include the cost of insurance. See Park Use Insurance Requirements for more information.

SPR will provide limited promotion of the Showcase, and performers are encouraged to promote their performance within their own networks as well.

All performances must be family-friendly as the series is sponsored by Seattle Parks and Recreation.

The Summer Showcase is one of several events planned for Dr. Blanche Lavizzo Park in 2017.
