Seattle Parks and Recreation and the Northgate Community Center Advisory Council invite the community to a celebration dedicating the new skatepark and outdoor exercise equipment at Hubbard Homestead Park, 11203 5th Ave. NE, in the Northgate neighborhood. The celebration, Activate Northgate, will be held on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. with the official ribbon cutting at 11:30 a.m.
The event features activities for the whole family including free beginner skate lessons, exercise equipment and skateboard demonstrations, giveaways, music and snacks. Skate Like a Girl encourages beginner skateboarders to come out and learn how to skateboard. All skateboard equipment will be provided and there will be fun skate giveaways.
The new additions to the park provide outdoor fitness and wellness opportunities for all. The 12 Play & Park Structures exercise equipment includes a self-weighted rower, a two-person self-weighted chest press, a sit-up bench and horizontal bars. Each station is equipped with signage that provides simple and effective directions. At the event, personal trainers from Sgt. Mike’s Training will provide exercise tips at the new outdoor exercise equipment located in the northeast corner of the park.
The Citywide Skatepark Plan, developed by Seattle Parks with extensive community input, recommended Northgate as a site for a skatespot. The Parks and Green Spaces Levy funded the project. Mithun, van der Zalm + associates Inc. and Newline Skateparks designed the skatepark that is located in the southwest area of the park. Seattle Parks awarded the construction contract to TF Sahli Construction.
Seattle Parks and the Northgate Community Center Advisory Council wish to thank our partners at this event: Northgate Plaza, a Merrill Gardens Community and Skate Like a Girl.
