Seattle City Council confirms Jesús Aguirre as new Parks superintendent

Seattle Parks and Recreation is excited to welcome Jesús  Aguirre as its new superintendent. Seattle City Council confirmed Aguirre’s appointment on May 11. He was nominated by Mayor Ed Murray in February.

Aguirre has served as a parks director, educator, and most recently, as the State Superintendent of Education for the District of Columbia.

“I firmly believe that Seattle Parks and Recreation is poised to become the best in the nation,” Aguirre said. “Our agency plays a vital role in the development, vitality and sustainability of our city and I look forward to working with each of you to enhance the quality of life for all of the residents of Seattle.”
