Earth Runs is dedicated to promoting health in our communities and our environment. The organization plants trees and native plants to clean up our air, water and carbon pollution, as well as to increase the beauty of our neighborhoods.
Earth Run helps educate the public on the importance of trees and provides information on proper tree placement and native plants. Earth Run also hosts a monthly fitness run for the community called the Magnuson Series. The running series helps keep our communities healthy and provides opportunities for the public to learn about and participate in restoration events.
Public Benefits:
Low cost fitness activities: Earth Runs provides low cost, family-friendly monthly running and walking events for individuals, duos, and groups of all abilities at Magnuson Park called the Magnuson Series. The goal of the Magnuson Series is to provide affordable fitness events that help the community get outside and get moving. Discounts are available for students, military and seniors. Fundraising: In addition to promoting health, the Magnuson Series helps fundraise for local charities. In 2017, Earth Run had more than 3,600 finishers and donated more than $1,000 to three nonprofits: Teen Feed, Real Change, and the Mangrove Action Project.
Tree plantings: Earth Runs has directly and indirectly planted over 12,000 trees in and around Seattle. Areas where they have directly planted trees include parks, traffic circles, and residential homes. Earth Run also has a tree grant program for people and organizations that meet their criteria. Earth Run sponsors home property plantings as well as large tree giveaways at their annual Earth Day event at Magnuson Park. Each year, Earth Run directly and indirectly plants over 1,000 trees and native plants in our region. That represents a carbon reduction of 48,000 pounds annually! Recycling: Participants can bring used running shoes to any Magnuson Series event and drop them off at the registration area, and they will be donated to Africa by the More Foundation. Participants can also drop off old race medals to be recycled by Sports Medal Recycling.
Education: Earth Runs provides free educational resources to the community on the following topics: how to build a rain garden; benefits of rain gardens; proper tree placement; native planting guide, and native trees and plants. Access their educational materials online here.
