Lake City Community Center Demolition

Due to the extensive fire damage at the Lake City Community Center, Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) issued an Emergency Public Work Contract to Diverse Earthworks for demolition of the fire damaged building and stabilization of an existing retaining wall. Diverse Earthworks will mobilize at the site, 12531 28th Ave. NE, the week of November 27.

Weather permitting, the work will be completed by late February 2024. Once the demolition is completed the area will be hydroseeded for erosion and sediment control and fencing will remain around the site.

SPR is working with The Office of Housing (OH) to finalize a Request for Proposals (RFP) related to the new Community Center/Affordable Housing co-location project with the intent to issue the RFP to secure an affordable housing developer by late fall 2023.  At this time, a project advisory team will be announced.  The project advisory team will help guide the project and public engagement process.

In early 2024, once a developer is on-board, public engagement related to the community center will continue concurrent with technical work related to the housing project and associated property agreements.  OH and SPR anticipate construction starting in 2025.
