Teen Summer Musical performances will take place at Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute on August 18-20 and Aug. 25-27

Seattle Parks and Recreation and Acts on Stage, a Black owned and operated community theater, are proud to present the 27th annual Teen Summer Musical, Dream!

The summer musical is an opportunity for local teens (mostly of Color) to perform in a musical theater production that reflects their culture and community while learning the disciplines of stage. Summer musical participants earn a stipend for rehearsals and performance during this 9-week summer program.

Through workshops and collaborative practices, a staff of professional artists develop the talents and skills of over 35 youth who spend nine hours together Monday through Friday for 9 weeks for acting, dance and vocal training and hands-on work with the technical aspects of theater – costume, lighting and set design.

About Dreams!

Dreams! is a spirited story about teens who are obsessed with making their most vivid imaginations come true while being stunted by the paralyzing commentary of a society that can’t see past the day-to-day reality. It’s a highly choreographed battle between dreams rising vs. dreams deferred. Written and directed by Isiah Anderson, Jr., this Broadway meets 90’s sitcom styled production is a challenge to conventional thinking that is elevated by the music of Cedric Paul Thomas and given wings by emerging choreographer Myke Hodges.
