Seward Park swimming beach will open after two days of clean water samples

Seattle’s Seward Park swimming beach will reopen Saturday, after two consecutive days of testing showed the water safe for recreation. But a four-block stretch of Lake Washington remains closed to contact by humans and pets pending further testing.

The section of Lake Washington shoreline near Wednesday’s sewage spill site — from South Angeline Street north to the 4200 block of Lake Washington Boulevard South (including Lakewood Moorage) — remains closed. Additional testing will be conducted this weekend.

Seattle Parks and Recreation, Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) and Public Health–Seattle and King County closed areas of the lake Wednesday after problems with a pipe valve caused an estimated 12,000 gallons sewage to spill near South Alaska Street and Lake Washington Boulevard South, more than a mile north of the Seward Park beach. Pritchard Beach Park Closed After Sewage Leak

Pritchard Beach Park has been closed after a sewage leak from nearby private residences was discovered. 

The homeowners have been given three days, per regulation, to fix the problem pipes. The park, beach and bathhouse are all closed until at least Friday, July 2. 

King County has tested the water at the beach, and lab results do not indicate high levels of fecal bacteria or e coli in the lake at this time. Seattle Public Utilities took samples for a second test today. Results are expected later this week.   

A public meeting scheduled at the bathhouse to discuss improvements to Atlantic Street Nursery on Wednesday, June 30, has been moved to the Atlantic Street Nursery, 5513 S Cloverdale Street. The meeting time is the same – 7 – 8:30 p.m. 

After the pipe repairs have been made, and the area cleaned, the park will re-open; however, a firm re-opening time and date have not been established.
