The Seattle Board of Park Commissioners will hold its next regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at 100 Dexter Ave. N, in the Parks Administration Building at Denny Way and Dexter Avenue N.
The agenda includes:
Park Classification System Policy. Under a proposed park classification system policy, Parks and Recreation would identify each park in the system as one of several types: pocket park, downtown park, neighborhood park, community park, recreation area, natural area/greenbelt, boulevard/ green street/trail, or special use park. Doing so would recognize the unique nature of each property according to its size, its setting within a neighborhood, the amenities it provides to park visitors, its accessibility to the public, and its soil, hydrology, vegetation, and habitat. The system would provide guidelines for future development, provide a basis for appropriate programming, and inform planting and other design standards. The Board heard a staff briefing on a proposal at its July 9, 2009, meeting, and held a public hearing on it at the October 8, 2009 meeting.
Scheduling Athletic Field Closures for Maintenance. Parks staff will brief the Board on a proposal to create a schedule for athletic field maintenance closures. Such a schedule will ensure safe athletic venues for Seattleās many athletes, limit impacts on field users, and provide predictability for future maintenance closures. The Board will hold a public hearing and discuss and make a recommendation to the Superintendent on the proposal at later dates.
Briefing papers are available on the web at: http://www.seattle.gov/parks/parkboard/default.asp.
