Seattle Parks and Recreation will participate in a community forum sponsored by Groundswell Northwest on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Ballard Community Center, 6020 28th Ave NW. During this meeting, Parks will provide information about the 2008 Parks and Green Spaces Levy and discuss the opportunity for a new neighborhood park in the Ballard urban village.
In November 2008, Seattle voters approved the Parks and Green Spaces Levy an impressive 59% vote. The levy provides $146 million over six years, for neighborhood and green space acquisitions and more than 50 named development projects throughout the city. The goal of the acquisition team is to acquire properties in areas that have been identified in the Parks and Recreation 2006 Development Plan and Gap Analysis as deficient in park space relative to the City’s comprehensive plan. The development projects provide improved playfields, reservoir lid parks, forest and stream restoration, community gardens, and renovated playgrounds throughout Seattle.
