Seattle Parks and Recreation will host a public meeting on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at Garfield Community Center from 7 – 8 p.m. to present renovation and schedule information for the Garfield Baseball Field renovation project. Garfield Community Center is located at 2323 E. Cherry St.
The renovations include replacing the sand/silt infield with a synthetic turf infield and replacing the existing clamshell backstop with 30-foot-high upright backstop. Parks has partnered with Ohno Construction, FieldTurf, and the Seattle Mariners to make renovations to the field that will allow year-round use.
“We are honored to be working with these generous partners and excited that Garfield Playfield will soon be a competition-level facility for Garfield Varsity Athletics, Little League and Returning Baseball to the Inner City (RBI),” said Raft Hollingsworth, Athletic Fields Coordinator for Seattle Parks and Recreation.
