Lake City neighborhood invited to participate in second online planning meeting for the Lake City Floodplain Park

Join us on Zoom July 20, 2022 from 6:30-8:00 pm!

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR), Seattle Public Utilities (SPU), and Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group are excited to invite the Lake City Community to participate in the second of three online workshops to plan the future Lake City Floodplain Park, 2318 NE 125th Street, Seattle, WA 98125, on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. To receive a Zoom link for the workshop, please register at lakecityfloodplainpark.com/register.

This online workshop will give an overview of the project, reflect what we have heard from the community to date and provide an opportunity for participants to give input on how to weave community-generated park ideas with the Thornton Creek restoration and floodplain reconnection goals. Community feedback about how Lake City residents would like to use the future park will be incorporated into the park design. The goal of the new park is to provide a space that will serve the needs of the Lake City community, provide accessible open space, and support a healthier Thornton Creek.

The community encouraged the purchase of the property, previously privately owned, because they saw an opportunity to create more green space in the Lake City community and to restore and protect Thornton Creek. In response to strong community advocacy and support, Seattle Parks and Recreation and Seattle Public Utilities jointly purchased the property in 2019. The demolition of one of the structures onsite is complete and SPR anticipates the other structure demolition to be completed by fall 2022.
