Seattle Parks and Recreation invites the community to a public meeting for the Lewis Park Natural Area Improvement Opportunity Fund project on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Jefferson Community Center. Jefferson Community Center is located at 3801 Beacon Avenue S.
This project adds trails and improves access that allows for a picnic area, views and gathering spaces. The Friends of Lewis Park selected Hafs Epstein landscape architects to create the conceptual design for the project located on North Beacon Hill at 1120 15th Ave. S. The meeting will be an opportunity for the community to learn about the project and provide input.
From pulling ivy and blackberry in the rain and planting native plants, to staffing outreach tables, the community has demonstrated its desire to shape the future of this unique park. Funding from Department of Neighborhoods, King County, and the Green Seattle Partnership supported these volunteer efforts by providing professional crews to restore the steep slopes and ravine area. As a result of this collaborative process native plants are blooming, new wildlife is discovering the natural area, and the community received this $700,000 Parks and Green Spaces Opportunity Fund to move the project forward.
The community is encouraged to attend this next step in the improvement project and provide feedback on this project.
