John Muir Elementary School students played recorders to celebrate their renovated playground during an official dedication on Friday, March 14.
Last summer work began to add new play equipment, rain gardens, permeable surfaces and planting beds. A new fence was installed, and the irrigation system was upgraded.
The project received $270,000 from the 2008 Parks and Green Spaces Levy and was also supported by community donations, a Department of Neighborhoods Matching Fund award and volunteer labor.
Seattle Parks and Recreation Planning and Development Director Michael Shiosaki said the department was excited about this project because parks and schools go hand in hand as places that provide experiences to grow and learn.
