Seattle Parks and Recreation is happy to announce Colman Pool opens on Saturday, June 30, 2012 after the completion of a renovation that invests in the future of the pool.
After opening in 1941, this Olympic size pool has seen various improvements but none compare to the work recently completed. Some of the improvements are visible such as the new deck and plaster lining, and some are out of sight like the replacement of infrastructure including heat exchangers, the boiler, and mechanical systems. Orca Pacific contractors was awarded the restoration contract and Seattle Parks skilled crafts workers collaborated to complete the job on time.
The Saturday and Sunday schedule for the summer is
- Noon-1:30 p.m. Lap Swim
- 1:45-4:45 p.m. Public Swim
- 5-7 p.m. Lap Swim
- 5-7 p.m. Family Swim
Colman Pool, Seattle’s only outdoor saltwater pool, is normally filled with salt water. For the protection of the new plaster liner, Parks will fill the pool with domestic water at the start the season. The amount of chlorine and the chemical balance is the same whether you have saltwater or domestic water. At the beginning of next season we will fill the pool with treated salt water from Puget Sound.
