Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) invites the community to a meeting on Thursday, November 16 to provide input on the design options for Christie Park and the park expansion project. Join SPR’s project design team, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at University Heights Center, to learn about the park expansion project and to provide design review. Neighbors of all ages are encouraged to attend and let us know what amenities and park elements are preferred as part of the addition. Staff will provide light refreshments and children’s activities, and the meeting will be held at University Heights Center, 5031 University Way NE in room 109.
SPR purchased the .11-acre site directly adjacent and south of Christie Park, 4257 9th Ave. NE, in 2012 to increase the open space for the University District urban village. The design of the addition will incorporate accessibility in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and will provide additional open space within this high-density neighborhood. SPR will work with the community on the design and encourages community input on the project. Please participate in this short survey https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NJR8Q29 to further inform the design.
Funding for this park project is provided by the Seattle Park District. Approved by Seattle voters in 2014, the Seattle Park District provides more than $47 million a year in long-term funding for Seattle Parks and Recreation including maintenance of parklands and facilities, operation of community centers and recreation programs, and development of new neighborhood parks on previously acquired sites.
Thank you to the U District Partnership, University Heights Center and Seattle Kaohsiung Sister City Affiliation for their support of this project and assistance in this meeting.
