May is Bike Month, and we are celebrating with the return of Bicycle Sundays! On scheduled Sundays from May to September, a portion of Lake Washington Boulevard will be closed to motorized vehicles from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Seattle Parks and Recreation invites everyone in the community to bike, jog or stroll along the boulevard between the Seward Park entrance and Mount Baker Park’s beach during these times.

The 2017 event dates are:

  • May 21 and 28
  • June 4, 25
  • July 2, 9, and 16
  • August 13, 20, 27
  • September 3 and 10

Last year, more than 36,000 people participated in Bicycle Sunday events. With the beautiful weather we’ve been experiencing, and with TWO additional days this year, 2016 will no doubt be another banner year.

The 2016 event dates are:

  • May 1, 15, 29
  • June 19, 26
  • July 3, 10, 17
  • August 14, 28
  • September 4, 11, 18, 25

Bicycle Sundays start May 4

Dig out your helmet. Dust off your training wheels. A new series of Bicycle Sundays begins on May 4, 2014.

Lake Washington Boulevard will be closed to motorized vehicles 10 a.m.-6 p.m. during Bicycle Sundays. Come bike, jog or stroll along the boulevard between the Seward Park entrance and Mount Baker Park’s beach.

Event dates are:

  • May 4, 11 and 18
  • June 1, 15 and 29
  • July 6 and 13
  • August 10 and 24
  • September 14 and 21

Every Bicycle Sunday event the Cascade Bicycle Club Education Foundation will sell helmets in Seward Park for $15 from 1-4 p.m. and offer professional helmet fittings. Seattle law requires all cyclists to wear helmets. Wearing a properly fitted helmet reduces the risk of severe head injury by 85 percent.

Bicycle Sundays are sponsored by Seattle Parks and Recreation, Cascade Bicycle Club and Seattle Department of Transportation with the support of the Seattle Police Department.

2010 Bicycle Sunday Dates Announced

Bicycle Sundays will start on the first Sunday in May and continue nearly every Sunday through the end of September. For 19 weekend days this spring and summer, the City will devote a stretch of Lake Washington Boulevard exclusively to bicycles. Cyclists can ride along the car-free shores of Lake Washington from Mt. Baker Beach south to Seward Park from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the following days: 

  • May 2, 9, 16, 23, 30
  • June 6, 13, 27
  • July 5 (a Monday), 11, 18, 25
  • August 1, 22, 29
  • September 5, 12, 19, 26 

There will be no Bicycle Sunday on the following dates:
