Seattle Parks and Recreation Lunar New Year celebrations

Seattle Parks and Recreation and partners are hosting a variety of Lunar New Year events and activities across Seattle. See below for details.

Jan. 25 at Garfield Community Center: Seattle Parks and Recreation’s Vietnamese Food and Fitness program is hosting a Lunar New Year celebration from 11:00 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25 in partnership with the Vietnamese Senior Association and Seattle Parks and Recreation’s Lifelong Recreation program. The Lunar New Year festivities will take place at Garfield Community Center (2323 E Cherry St.) and the celebration will include cultural demonstrations like the traditional Lion Dance.

Jan. 26 and 27 at Seattle Center: Seattle Parks and Recreation’s community partners for the Little Saigon Park Development project will have a booth at Tết in Seattle – Vietnamese Lunar New Year at the Seattle Center on Saturday, Jan. 26 and Sunday, Jan. 27 to engage with the community and answer questions about the park project. Please stop by the booth.

Feb. 1 at Lake City Community Center: Join us for a family craft night on Friday, Feb. 1 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Lake City Community Center (12531 28th Ave. NE). Staff will teach you basic skills and provide supplies to help you create your own Lunar New Year lanterns. Fee: $5; sign up in advance here.

Feb. 6 at Hiawatha Community Center: Youth ages 12 to 19 are invited to join Hiawatha’s 6th annual Lunar New Year kickoff from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Hiawatha Community Center (2700 California Ave. SW). Special features include zodiac information, a movie on the projector screen, and a New Year’s meal for all attendees. Questions?
