Happy Holiday Happenings!

After the turkey and leftovers are gone, the holiday season gets into full swing. And we’ve got events to help celebrate in each corner of the city! Here are some family-friendly ways to make merry around Seattle in the coming weeks:

Southeast

Sweet Pea Cottage Theater for Young Children Presents “The Gingerbread Man”– Free
Van Asselt Community Center. Tuesday 12/4 at 11 am. Ages 5 and under with adults.
Run, run as fast as you can! You can’t catch me, I’m the gingerbread man! Come and see a crazy cast of characters try and catch this tricky cookie. He thinks he’s so clever, but little does he know that he soon will meet the animal that will outFOX him. Donations accepted.  Ages 5 and under with adults.

Holiday PartyFree
Garfield Community Center, Friday 12/14 from 6:30-8 pm. All ages.
Come celebrate all the season’s many wonders with your neighbors and friends at Garfield Community Center. Pre-registration is required to receive a toy at the event. Toy give away is need-based and pending toy donations. Call 206-684-4788 for details. *Toy distribution will occur the week after the event.

Winter Wonderland Party
International District Chinatown Community Center, Friday 12/14 from 6-7:30 p.m. $1/Child; all ages.
This exciting, fun-filled evening of surprises for children and their families will include a visit from a North Pole friend, arts and crafts projects, holiday pictures, bouncy houses, and a new and special treat this year! Parents and grandparents are invited to participate.

Southwest

Parents’ Night Out
Hiawatha Community Center, Friday 12/7 from 6-9 p.m. $20. (Sibling Discount: $15). Ages 4 and older.
Get those last minute and surprise gifts taken care of without the “help” of your little ones. Activities and a movie will keep them busy, along with cheese pizza, fruit, and lots of fun! Children must be potty trained. E-13 form is required. Registration cut off is 11/28. Call 206-684-7441 for details.

Harborview Holiday PartyFree
Yesler Community Center, Saturday 12/8 from 10 am – 2 pm. All ages.
Come to Yesler and celebrate the holiday season with your family! Enjoy fun activities. Thanks to our sponsor Harborview Medical Center!

Northeast

Luminaria Walk Volunteer Work Party
Meadowbrook Community Center, Thursday 11/29 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Ages 10 and older.
Volunteers will be inside filling sandwich bags with sand, counting candles and bags, and organizing for the big event.

Luminaria Walk Volunteer Work Party
Meadowbrook Community Center, Saturday 12/1 from 4-8:30 p.m. Ages 10 and older.
The day of the Luminaria Walk, volunteers will be outside, rain or shine, setting up 700 luminaries throughout Meadowbrook Pond. During the event, volunteers will be serving hot cocoa to the participants. After the event, volunteers will pick up the luminaries and other equipment and carry it back to Meadowbrook Community Center.

Friends of Meadowbrook Pond and the Meadowbrook Advisory Council are joining together to host our Annual Luminaria Walk. Please come enjoy good company and hot cocoa, while walking around the beautifully-lit pathway. We are also looking for community members to help make this event happen; work parties are listed below!

Green Lake Pathway of Lights – Free
Green Lake Park, multiple locations, Saturday 12/8 from 4:30 – 7:30. Come stroll the glimmering Green Lake circuit, paths, and docks which will be lit with thousands of twinkling candles. Enjoy complimentary refreshments and live holiday music while you wander through the magic of the sparkling lights. Details here

Parents’ Night Out Drop ‘n Shop!
Ravenna-Eckstein Community Center, Friday 12/14 from 6-9 p.m. $25 (Second Child $20). Ages 3-10.
Get those last minute and surprise gifts taken care of without the “help” of your little ones. Activities will keep them busy, along with cheese pizza, fruit, and lots of fun! Children must be potty trained, and E-13’s are required. Instructor: Teacher Denise. Call 206-684-7534 for details.

Holiday Gift GiveawayFree
Miller Community Center, Saturday 12/15 from 10 am -2 p.m. All ages.
Join Miller Community Center in a long-time partnership with The Country Doctor for a gathering of families to share in the holiday experience. Activities include games, cookie decorating, face painting, and more!

Pancake Breakfast
Northgate Community Center, Saturday 12/15 from 9-11:30 am. $5 for ages 4-54; $4 for ages 55+ Children ages 3 and under eat free!
Join your friends and neighbors for Northgate Community Center’s Pancake Breakfast on December 15th! Bring the whole family and enjoy all-you-can-eat pancakes along with scrambled eggs, sausage, juice, and coffee! Proceeds from this event will help provide scholarships for our low-income neighbors.

Argosy Christmas ShipFree
Magnuson Park Beach, Wednesday 12/19 from 8:30-9:15 p.m. All ages.
Enjoy a cheery winter’s night with live music, cocoa and cookies, and hundreds of luminaries to light your way to the beach (weather permitting). Activities begin at 8 p.m. and ship arrival is set for 8:45 p.m. Festivities and refreshments are sponsored by the Magnuson and Laurelhurst Advisory Councils and Seattle Parks and Recreation. Argosy Christmas Ship Free
Matthews Beach, Thursday 12/20 from 8:30-9:05 p.m.  All ages.
Enjoy the beautiful nightlight with hot cocoa in hand, while awaiting for the ship to arrive. Ship arrival/departure time 8:45-9:05 p.m.

Northwest

Multi-Cultural Dinner
Bitter Lake Community Center, Friday 12/7 from 5:30-7 p.m. $10/family of 4+ or $3 per individual.
Come join us for a culinary tour around the world! Use this annual Bitter Lake tradition to introduce your family to food from different cultures. We have something for everyone! Food is one of the best ways to experience and celebrate diversity.

Lil’ Gingerbread Event
Magnolia Community Center, Friday 12/7 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.  $5, ages 5 and under.
Come on down to enjoy decorating cookies and gingerbread houses. Bring out the family and your little ones! We supply all the goodies, you bring the fun.

Magnolia Community Center, Friday 12/7 from 5-7 p.m. $5, all ages.
Did you miss out on the Lil Gingerbread event earlier in the day? Come back out to the second showing. We will be decorating gingerbread houses and cookies.

Join us this year for an evening of holiday fun. You bring your imagination, we will provide the rest! There will be all sorts of holiday crafts, music, and of course our magnificent Gingerbread house construction zone!

Argosy Christmas Ship – Free
Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, Saturday 12/15 from 3:10-3:30 p.m. All ages.
Join the festivities as the Argosy Ship arrives at the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks where beautiful songs of the holiday will be heard far and wide. This event is hosted by Ballard and Loyal Heights Community Centers.
