The Seattle Board of Park Commissioners will hold a public hearing on the Multi-Use Trail Pilot Project during its board meeting scheduled for April 26, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. in the Dexter Administration Building located at 100 Dexter Ave. N., Seattle, WA. Community members are encouraged to attend this meeting and give public testimony on the pilot project.
The pilot project will set a 15-mph speed limit for all users, allow Class 1 and Class 2 electric-assist bicycles, and include an education and outreach campaign on trail etiquette with the Seattle Department of Transportation. The pilot project will take place starting Memorial Day on the following multi-use trails:
- Burke-Gilman Trail
- Elliott Bay Trail
- Mountains to Sound Trail
- Melrose Connector Trail
- Duwamish Trail
During the one-year pilot, SPR staff will collect data and feedback, conduct focus groups, and educate the public on the pilot.

The Seattle Board of Park Commissioners is a nine-member citizen board created by the City Charter. Four members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council; four members are appointed by the City Council; and one member is a young adult appointed by the YMCA Get Engaged program. The Board generally meets twice a month, normally on the second and fourth Thursday, to advise the Parks and Recreation Superintendent, the Mayor, and the City Council on parks and recreation matters.
