Bhy Kracke renovation work begins

Paths and play area closed during construction

Seattle Parks and Recreation issued the Notice to Proceed to Bayshore Concrete for the slope stabilization project at Bhy Kracke Park, 1215 5th Ave. N on southeast Queen Anne. Bayshore Concrete will start construction beginning April 9 and work will be completed by early July 2018. Although Seattle Parks and Recreation and the contractor hired for the project will work to minimize impact to the neighborhood, much of the park will be closed during construction. The Seattle Park District’s Fix It First Initiative funds this much-needed major maintenance project.

The scope of work includes installation of pipe pile retaining walls at the pathway behind the play area, removal of a deteriorating cherry tree, and pathway widening and replacement. During construction, the contractor will need to close the play area, the lawn adjacent to the play area, lower field, and picnic/ arbor area, the pathway behind the play area, and the pathways behind the play area and arbor.  The closest park with a play area is Bayview Kinnear Park, 270 W Prospect St, less than 1 mile away.

This project requires driving piles for the foundation of the wall. This work will take approximately a month and will be noisy. We are working with the contractor hired for the project to minimize impact to the neighborhood.

The two additives which included vines at the base of the retaining wall, arbor work (additional pipe pile wall behind the arbor, modifications to the arbor to remove the northern bay), and removal of the secondary switchback pathway at the lower garden with vegetation restoration were not within budget and will not be constructed at this time.
