206 Forward Youth Finish Tiny Home Project

Over the past three Saturdays, 206 Forward Youth Advocates of Seattle poured their hearts and their time into building a tiny home for the Nickelsville Tiny Home Community in Wallingford. Each construction day, a team of 206 Forward members, alumni, and friends would work eight-hour shifts, hammering nails, assembling wall framing, laying down floors, insulating, priming, and painting their tiny home.

On March 10, the team began their final day of construction, during which they received visits from Mayor Jenny Durkan and Acting SPR Superintendent Christopher Williams. Mayor Durkan and Superintendent Williams were able to witness the team putting final touches on the tiny home, and both city officials acknowledged the young advocates for their hard work and compassion, citing the team as a powerful example of young people speaking up and acting on social justice concerns in Seattle.

After a full day of finishing their tiny home project and meeting city officials, the 206 Forward team wiped the paint from their hands and shared a home-cooked meal together as they celebrated and reflected upon their work. They shared with one another examples of how their tiny home project helped them grow and learn, many of them speaking on the severity and roots of homelessness, the importance of gratitude, and the power young people have to make a difference.

On Monday, March 12, the Nickelsville Tiny Home Community in Wallingford received a very special delivery—its 22nd tiny home. This home, built by the 206 Forward Youth Advocates of Seattle, was the final home Nickelsville needed to open their community to people in need of housing. Thank you, 206 Forward youth, for your dedication to the community and for your advocacy.
