Free Renewable Energy STEM Workshops for Seattle students

rectechSeattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) and the Associated Recreation Council are proud to announce free Renewable Energy STEM Workshops in partnership with Verizon Foundation. During the 2017 winter quarter, Rainier Community Center and Rainier Beach Community Center RecTech labs will each host two 12-week workshops for middle school students.

Workshop participants will use science and technology to explore, experiment and discover alternative energy sources including wind, solar and hydro power. Each workshop will meet once a week for an hour and a half, and at the end of the workshop students will take home their own hydro-powered toy car.

The workshops are free and open to all middle school students interested in exploring the world of alternative energy through STEM-based learning. The workshop options are:

Rainier Beach RecTech Lab, 6th-8th grade
Wednesdays, January 18-April 5, 3-4:30 p.m.
Or
Fridays, January 20-April 7, 3-4:30 p.m.

Rainier RecTech Lab, 5th-8th grade
Tuesdays, January 17-April 4, 3-4:30 p.m.
Or
Thursday January 19-April 6, 3-4:30 p.m.

Each workshop has space for 10 participants. Registration begins January 3 and space is limited. To enroll, call or stop by the community center.
