Bring your cameras and capture the breathtaking sight of Japanese maple trees ablaze in fall color at the annual Maple Viewing Festival, October 15 – 16, at the Seattle Japanese Garden.

This family-friendly event, open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, features nature-inspired craft making with UW Botanical Gardens, riveting taiko performances by UW Taiko and Kaze Daiko, and maple tree scavenger hunts for the kids. Fans of samurai swords will not want to miss the live Japanese sword demonstration by instructors of Seibu Ryu Battojustu.

There will also be free tours with guides, giving visitors insight into the garden’s history, and helping to identify the various species of maple at the garden.

For hungry guests, Tokyo Dog will be on site to offer their not-to-be-missed, innovative creations.

The Tateuchi Community Room will be open to visitors to see Impressions of Fall, a stunning photography exhibit curated by Vashon Island-based photographer Ray Pfortner. The exhibit showcases the juried works of students who participated in Pfortner’s fall photography workshop at the Japanese Garden in 2015.

The event is free with garden admission, no advance tickets necessary. Garden admission prices: Adults, $6; Youth 6 -17, students with ID, and seniors 65 and over, $4. Children 5 and under are free. Annual pass holders are welcome to use their pass to gain entry to this event.
