Hing Hay Park is about to expand, and Seattle Parks and Recreation invites you to the project’s first public meeting on Thursday, Nov. 21, 6-8 p.m. at the International District/Chinatown Community Center at 719 8th Ave. S, 98104.
The project will extend Hing Hay Park (423 Maynard Ave. S) to include the site of the current post office (414 6th Ave. S) and make some renovations to the existing park. This meeting gives the community an opportunity to share ideas and offer input on the additional park space. Seattle Parks staff will be at the meeting to discuss the project and answer questions.
Seattle Parks acquired the post office property in 2007 with funding from the Pro Parks Levy. The United States Postal Service will continue to lease the site while it conducts its own public process to relocate within the Chinatown International District.
The design team of SvR (a local firm) and Turenscape (a Beijing-based firm) will bring an international perspective to the project.
The 2008 Parks and Green Spaces Levy allocates $3 million to plan, design and construct the Hing Hay Park expansion.
The community is encouraged to be part of the process and provide input on the project.
For each major development or renovation project, Seattle Parks and Recreation typically holds three meetings to ensure community involvement. Subsequent public meetings will be held Tuesday, Jan. 21 and Tuesday, Feb. 25. As part of this project, Seattle Parks will survey neighbors and conduct outreach at local events and meetings.
